Gary Bettman Outlines A Playoff Plan for The NHL

We all miss sports and are eager for the day we can finally watch something live! Unfortunately, the NHL has decided to officially end the regular 2019-2020 season.

The NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman has announced that once play resumes, they will transition into a 24-team, conferenced based playoff. They are looking to have two hub cities for all games, one on the east side and another on the west side.

Here is Bettman’s playoff outline:

  • Find hub cities- Western and Eastern
  • Limit teams to 50 personnel in respective hub city, small support staff is permitted
  • Create comprehensive COVID-19 testing system
  • Phase 2= return to play
  • Phase 3= Start of training, hoping to begin early July
  • Phase 4= The return of play with clubs in hub cities- head to playoffs

Currently, there are no set dates for each phase. The NHL is hoping to have Phase 2 begin in June and move forward from there.
