This Graduation season isn’t what millions of high school Seniors could’ve EVER imagined. I know that’s true at our house! My daughter Malia is a Senior. As her parents, we’ve talked so many times about how amazing and surreal it’s going to be on the day our baby graduates and walks the stage at the very same high school that we went to! That was what we were saying to each other when she was just hours old and in my arms in the maternity ward at the hospital.
Preschool flew by for our baby girl, Kindergarten through 5th grade seemed like it was over even quicker. In middle school, she overcame so much and couldn’t wait for high school! It feels like not that long ago, we were just shopping for the outfit she was going to wear for Freshman orientation because she had to look cute! LOL– The years in high school zoomed by in a flash in between maintaining her grades, learning time management skills to figure out how to balance Tahitian dance, cheerleading, games, clubs, track and field seasons, her Mama trying to bribe her to go on a last minute Disneyland trip that always seemed to come up when a project was due (yes, I’m guilty of that), is what comes to mind. Now, here we are……. Senior year! The Graduation we imagined isn’t going to happen the way we pictured it due to Covid-19 concerns.
Not only is my daughter and our family saddened by not having a traditional ceremony and her school going the virtual route, but millions of other high school students & their families are feeling the exact same way. Some schools are also doing drive thru options as well. Schools are trying their best to keep everyone safe and still honor their students. That’s where some famous people are stepping in TONIGHT to make sure the Class of 2020 is celebrated and honored!
Former President Barack Obama has been asked by so many students during the pandemic to give their school commencement speeches, he’s going to give one to the WHOLE Class of 2020!! Along with some other celebrity friends too of course! Look out for the special called, “Graduate Together: America Honors the High School Class of 2020!” The special will run at the same time on Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS networks and also on IG, YouTube and Facebook at 8pm and have appearances by Zendaya, Pharrell and performances by H.E.R., Bad Bunny and the Jonas Brothers just to name a few!!
I know our family can’t wait to watch this tonight! All I gotta say is…….. Class of 2020….. ya’ll are stronger than no other class before you making it through this year and not to mention the 13 years you’ve had to go through in and out of school! I’m proud of you ALL!!! Congrats Seniors and continue to do amazing things!!
It’s still not too late to add your contributions to this special! They’re looking for students photos, short videos and more! Get info here!
