Peaceful protests during the day turned into a night of vandalism, looting and violence in the streets of San Francisco. Late Saturday night, city officials declared curfew beginning immediately until 5am Sunday. The curfew begins again tonight (Sunday) also at 8 and it will continue until further notice. Mayor London Breed addressed the city yesterday supporting peaceful protest but urging those who want to come to the city to cause mayhem to stay home. She has also put the National Guard on stand-by should things continue to get out of hand. You can watch her address along with a statement from the city’s Chief of Police William Scott here.

Breed told city residents “We want to make sure our city is a platform for people to express themselves. But when it crosses the line, that’s not good for any of us. It’s not how you honor the memory of the people who sadly have lost their lives to senseless violence. I want to be clear. We’re implementing a curfew. We will have the National Guard on standby. We will do everything we can to protect our city.”
