After 33 years of business, Bay Area based Specialty’s Café and Bakery is closing for good this week.  I’m sad about this news for one particular reason…the wheat germ chocolate chip cookie! Sure, Specialty’s made some really tasty sandwiches and all their baked goods were generous in size. But when I wanted to treat myself from time to time after work, that cookie was always the first thing that came to my mind. Now, this Wednesday is the last day it will be available.

Specialties has locations all over the Bay, several in San Francisco in and around the Financial District. They mostly depend on hungry workers every weekday to keep their business afloat. Due to the fact that there is practically no one coming to work in business districts, their revenue has collapsed and they can no longer stay open. Specialties was founded in Pleasanton back in the 1980s and had grown to open locations in Illinois and Washington.

As for THE COOKIE…other fans of the unique wheat germ, chocolate chip deliciousness have already posted recipes but this is one I’ve made in the past. It’s really good! Click here for recipe.
