Hey all you cool cats and kittens! The worldwide phenomena that is “The Tiger King” continues to build with the announcement of a new, 8 episode scripted series expected later this year. Already, Nicholas Cage has been cast to play Joe Exotic, the flamboyant, mullet-wearing, former zoo owner who is now serving a twenty-two year sentence in prison for attempted murder among other charges. The new CBS Studios produced show will be based on an article from June 2019’s Texas Monthly Magazine titled “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild.” The article is just as jaw dropping as the Netflix doc and was picked-up for series development shortly after it ran.

This isn’t the first scripted series to draw inspiration from Tiger King. Saturday Night Live’s Kate McKinnon signed on to executive produce and star (as Carole Baskin!) in another project back in November that is based on a podcast about Exotic. You gotta give Kate props for jumping on long before the entire world was binging the Tiger King on Netflix. Neither series has been picked up by a tv network or streaming service just yet. But with well known names cast to bring new perspectives to this story, we’ll probably have a lot of Tiger King shows to watch in the near future.
