Bad Bunny released his newest album ‘YHLQMDLG” at the end of February and it soon rose to the top of the charts. Bad Bunny is an artist that has conquered the world with his charisma and great artistical talent. What many may not know, is that he is also a strong advocate for women rights and his country, Puerto Rico.

It was on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon where he revealed the cover of his album and performed a couple of his newest singles. In that performance, Bad Bunny wore a pink blazer with a black rose pinned to it, a skirt, and later revealed his shirt which said, “Mataron a Alexa, no a un hombre con falda”. This translates to “You killed Alexa, not a man in a skirt”.

Alexa was a transgender woman killed in Puerto Rico after using the women’s restroom. In solidarity with the transgender community and frustration with the media, Bad Bunny wore this t-shirt as a statement.

In his newest music video for ‘Yo Perreo Sola’, Bad Bunny reveals the real meaning to his lyrics.

In the beginning we see him dressed as a woman in a red leather suit with knee high red leather boots. As seen below.

Throughout the music video he is shown dressed as a woman or wearing colors that one would consider “feminine”. He shows that he is not afraid to bend gender roles (which I love)! He is also, tying it back to the issue seen with Alexa, where she was killed for being transgender.

Bad Bunny continues to demonstrate his support of women’s rights and makes yet another statement in this music video. While he is dancing, behind him are neon lights that say “Ni Una Menos”, which translates to “Not one less”. This is a movement that began in Argentina after a woman was killed by her ex-boyfriend because she decided to break up with him.

In various parts of the video there are women enjoying dancing by themselves and ignoring all men approaching them. He concludes the video with this message:

The direct translation is ‘If she doesn’t want to dance with you, respect, she twerks by herself.’ Which ties all his beliefs of women’s rights into one sentence. Bad Bunny is an amazing artist but his heart is what makes his fans stick by his side.
