The NAACP announced Tuesday that it will honor Rihanna with the President’s Award during the organization’s upcoming 51st NAACP Image Awards, the AP reports. NAACP President Derrick Johnson said Rihanna “epitomizes the type of character, grace and devotion to justice” that the organization seeks to highlight. Past recipients of the President’s Award include last year’s honoree Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, as well as Jesse Jackson, Lauryn Hill, Soledad O’Brien, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and Muhammad Ali. The singer will receive the award at the Image Awards ceremony on February 22, in Pasadena, California, which is set to be televised live for the first time on BET.
